About the Camp
We're a surf camp composed by a team that is passionate about surf who curates surf experiences in the best beach destinations in Mexico and other countries, both individually and in groups.
Our Story
The origins of our story start with the connection Marisa has had with the ocean since she was a girl. Moving through Mexican sea towns throughout her childhood, she has always stayed close to the ocean and different water related activities. It was as an adult that she first connected with surfing and she stumbled upon a newfound freedom and sense of empowerment that she had never felt before. While exploring surf destinations in Oaxaca, she met people in a surfing community there that was the home of young surfing athletes. These young people inspired her to bring her passion for surf together with her willingness to help. It was while surfing in Barra de la Cruz that Marisa came up with the idea of #surfingforgood . She decided to create Tecas Surf Camp to share her passion for surf with both people who have never tried surfing before as well as with more experienced surfers. Along with the passionate surf and hospitality professionals who have since joined her, she is also inviting people to help a community in Barra de la Cruz by joining this surf camp experience.
Why Tecas?
Tecas is a word in zapotec, and the people around Barra de la Cruz, Oaxaca are known as tecos (men) and tecas (women). Given that Marisa wanted to honor the work she has been doing to support indigenous communities since she was young, and because she believes in women empowerment, she named the camp in honor of the resilient women of the Barra de la Cruz community, tecas.
